Sometimes the best upgrades are the ones that improve a classic car without taking away what makes it special.
That was exactly the brief for our latest project, all the way from the USA, for customer Ted Persons and his beautiful MGA.
Keeping the Spline Fitment
Ted’s MGA was originally fitted with its factory spline wheels, and while he wanted to give the car a fresh, modern look, he didn’t want to lose the simplicity and character of the original spline setup.
The solution?
A set of our 4.5 x 15″ DL wheels, supplied with our Type 42mm spline adapters.
This allowed Ted to retain the familiar spline hub fitment while upgrading to a modern three-piece Image Wheels design — giving him the best of both worlds.
Simple, Elegant and Just Right
The DL is a beautifully understated design, and on Ted’s MGA it looks right at home.
The combination of the classic MGA shape with the clean lines of the 15″ DL wheels gives the car a subtle modernisation without making it look out of place.

The Customer’s Verdict
We’re always pleased when a customer loves their wheels, but it’s even better when they take the time to tell us exactly how they’ve performed.
Ted had his wheels fitted with Michelin XZX tyres at a specialist tyre shop, where particular care was taken with the rims during fitting and balancing.
His feedback:
“I had Michelin XZX tires mounted at a very sophisticated shop wherein balancing is a fine art with utmost care given to the rims. No weights were required. Chrome trimmed valve stems were installed. They ‘feel’ smooth and strong. Thanks again and all best wishes.”
He was equally pleased with the fitment of the rear wheels:
“The rears are mounted with a perfect fit on the splined hub adapters. Very nice.”
And, following delivery, Ted summed up the whole experience beautifully:
“I’m pleased to report arrival of the wheels today in perfect condition as far as I can see. It has been a pleasure dealing with you and your family company.”
The Best of Both Worlds
This is exactly the sort of project we love at Image Wheels.
There’s no need to completely change the character of a classic car to give it a subtle upgrade. By combining our DL wheels with the Type 42mm spline adapters, Ted has retained the traditional spline fitment of his MGA while benefiting from a fresh set of bespoke Image Wheels.
